American Airlines (AA) Baggage Allowance Calculator

Carry-on rules on American Airlines (AA): no formal weight cap, dimensions not exceeding 56×36×23 cm (L×W×H). Weight is not strictly limited on American Airlines, but the bag must fit the sizer at the gate — over-stuffed roller bags are commonly gate-checked.

In addition to the main carry-on, American Airlines allows one personal item under the seat — the usual place for valuables, electronics and medications.

The checked allowance on American Airlines is 23 kg per standard bag, and the $45 fee doubles at the airport counter. Extra checked bags on American Airlines price at $55 USD each online; at the counter, expect 40–60% more for the identical bag.

Pre-book the first checked bag on American Airlines online; counter pricing is significantly higher. Overweight pricing runs $10/kg past 23 kg either way.

Excess pricing on American Airlines (AA): $55 per extra bag, $10/kg over 23 kg — the calculator multiplies both for your group. Compare strategies before paying: a second 18 kg bag at $55 often beats $10/kg overweight on one heavy case — the calculator tests both configurations for American Airlines (AA).

Pre-book additional bags online — airport-side rates on American Airlines are 40–60% higher, and same-day changes at the counter may not be available at all.

Sports gear on American Airlines (AA) travels as standard checked baggage within the weight allowance for the standard $45 bag fee. Guitars and cellos are the awkward case on American Airlines: either buy them a seat or check them in a hard case — soft cases are not covered for damage.

Assistive devices are always free on American Airlines (AA): wheelchairs, scooters and walkers are accepted at the gate and returned aircraft-side wherever feasible.
