ITA Airways (AZ) Baggage Allowance Calculator

ITA Airways permits one carry-on bag weighing up to 8 kg with maximum dimensions of 55×35×25 cm (length × width × height). Bags over 8 kg must be checked on ITA Airways; airport scales are accurate and staff enforce the 8 kg limit strictly.

In addition to the main carry-on, ITA Airways allows one personal item under the seat — the usual place for valuables, electronics and medications.

Checked baggage on ITA Airways (AZ): each bag can weigh up to 23 kg (included in most fares). Additional bags cost $60 USD each on ITA Airways; bag dimensions should total no more than 158 cm (62 in) linear — most standard suitcases comply.

Bulky items like strollers, car seats and wheelchairs travel free in the hold on ITA Airways, and overweight charges kick in above 23 kg at $10 USD per additional kilogram.

ITA Airways charges $60 USD per additional checked bag beyond the first, and $10 USD per kilogram over the 23 kg limit. The overweight-vs-second-bag decision is arithmetic: at $10/kg and $60 per extra bag, the crossover on ITA Airways usually sits 3–6 kg over the 23 kg limit, depending on what the second bag already weighs.

Repack before you pay: splitting weight across two bags at $60 each frequently undercuts overweight fees on ITA Airways, and online pre-booking undercuts the counter by 40–60%.

Skis, golf clubs and bikes count as ordinary checked bags on ITA Airways up to 23 kg; oversize items above 158 cm linear may incur a flat $75–150 surcharge. Guitars and cellos are the awkward case on ITA Airways: either buy them a seat or check them in a hard case — soft cases are not covered for damage.

Pack fragile and valuable items carefully — ITA Airways's liability for damage to improperly packed special items is limited, and hard-shell cases settle most disputes before they start.
